It almost goes without saying that this is excellent walking country, with something to suit every ability, from a gentle Sunday-morning stroll in Dinefwr Park to an 18-miler over the Carmarthen Fans in the Brecon Beacons (Fan Brycheiniog pictured above is 802m / 2631ft). Our location on the western edge of the Fforest Fawr Geopark, Wales's first European Geopark, which is part of the Brecon Beacons, is ideal for walkers – it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the other side of the valley where the National Park officially starts.
For an ideal Sunday morning walk, head to Garn Goch (236m / 775 ft) – a major fortified settlement since Neolithic times – near the hamlet of Bethlehem, a few miles north of Llandeilo. It offers splendid views of the Tywi valley and the countryside for miles around. Forty years after the late Gwynfor Evans became the first Plaid Cymru MP for the area in 1966, a memorial to him was unveiled on Garn Goch.
