Wales has more castles per square kilometer than anywhere else in Europe, so it's no big surprise to find three native Welsh castles within 10 minutes of Fronlas.
There are few castles in Wales, or Europe for that matter, which can boast a more spectacular location than Carreg Cennen Castle, perched on a 100m cliff in the Brecon Beacons.
Closer still is Dinefwr Castle, which was the chief seat of the rulers of the kingdom of Deheubarth. Further down the Tywi valley, towards Carmarthen, is Dryslwyn Castle – also occupied at one time by the princes of Deheubarth.
Although not a castle, Paxton Tower is also worth a visit for the views alone. Built in the early 1800s, this gothic folly has spectacular views towards the National Botanic Garden of Wales, the Tywi valley and beyond.
